Until the age of 28, JP played various other sports, the training sessions and trainers of which ultimately formed the basis for his training methods; from youth soccer, basketball, baseball, and tennis to various forms of martial arts (top 5 in the Netherlands in judo).

 

In 2002, JP started giving individual goalkeeper training sessions at the Larensche Mixed Hockey Club (LMHC), where he also played in goal for the Veterans. Initially, he started with the standard goalkeeper training sessions that every goalkeeper trainer begins with, but that soon changed.

In 2006, JP moved to the Baarnse Mixed Hockey Verenging (BMHV), where he continued to give individual training sessions to various field goalkeepers. At the start of the 2006/2007 season, JP was asked to take over the BMHV Keepersclub ZERO! and set up a serious (internal) goalkeeper school as head coach.

​

According to JP, being a goalkeeper is the most beautiful, challenging, and educational position on the hockey field, and that is exactly what comes across in his training sessions.

FROM KEEPERSCLUB ZERO! TO ZERO! ACADEMY

Since 2006, JP has continued to perfect his philosophy and laid the foundations for the ZERO! Academy. At the BMHV Keepersclub ZERO!, talented goalkeepers are trained using theoretical and practical unorthodox goalkeeper training methods developed by JP. In addition, JP trains the BMHV goalkeeper coaches to meet the high standards required of today's goalkeeper coaches.

In 2019, JP came up with a special ‘experience center’ to test the reaction speed and anticipation skills of goalkeepers in the ultimate way, and in 2020, the BMHV Keepersclub ZERO! managed to realize this unique ‘experience center’, making goalkeeper training even more exciting and challenging.

​

The drive to share his knowledge and experience with other goalkeepers led JP to found the ZERO! ACADEMY, a hockey goalkeeper school for all goalkeepers, from the youngest youth to veterans.

 

The ZERO! Academy is therefore the driving force behind the ZERO! Clinics.
